I don’t write much about politics here in my home state because I know most of you consider it flyover/layover land. Also because Chicago is way better than almost all of the places you people live, and I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag and have a bunch of East Coast douchebags and Loony Leftcoasters moving here and taking my dinner reservations and affordable housing. But Illinois can fucking BRING IT when it comes to crazy politics. Our last governor? Republican, nominated for the Nobel fucking Peace Prize and now in prison for being a corrupt scumbag. Our current governor? Democrat, more than a little mentally ill, airing all of his (political family) dirty laundry, came close to shutting down the state government to save his pride. Oh, and probably a corrupt scumbag who will end up in prison. Seriously, have you heard of this Tony Rezko thing? Also Chicago! His trial just started, and some prominent people, including certain current presidential nominee front runners, may be getting a little hot under the collar over that one. And I haven’t even mentioned perhaps our greatest politician. Fuck Rudy - we have Da Mayor.

But some of my fellow Illinoisans did something special on Saturday, and it deserves the attention of those of you who will drown when the ice caps melt. Follow along.

As Blogenfreude mentioned yesterday, big pasty fat fuck Denny Hastert resigned to spend more time with the land he owns that he helped earmark for development and will thus make him a fortune. Saturday was the special election to name his replacement, and the people of one of the most staunchly Republican districts in the state if not the nation elected Democrat physicist Bill Foster over dairy magnate and anti-immigration one-note asshole Jim Oberweis, the always-the-bridesmaid Republican who not only probably hides the illegals in the basement but probably also had them working for his company. And it just goes to show that as much at the Democrats are trying to fuck up the state, they are light years from being as fucked as the Republicans are here come November.
