Denial Ain’t Just a River in Egypt

I’m in an Apple Store in Houston, Tex. waiting for an appointment at the so-called Genius Bar to repair my ailing Mac Book Pro. And my iPhone’s acting up also. Here’s to hoping they give me a new one of both. So in the meantime, I used one of the store’s many computers to catch up on some headlines and I see that Charlie Black, a McCain staffer, observed today that maybe a couple of good old-fashioned terrorist attacks here in US soil would give the old man a little bit of a boost in the polls. Classy move, Charlie. But I’ll leave the outrage to other bloggers; I just wanted to point out a that just moments ago, when I was walking into this mall and before I read about this story, I just happened to be thinking about how the opposite seems to be true.

Were there to be an attack or two before the election as there very well could be since our Homeland Security policy of chasing Mexicans back to Mexico has left us with dependence on sheer, dumb luck, it seems to me it would serve to point out the extent to which President Whatshisface’s national security policies aren’t working. Instead, ol’ WALNUTS! had better hope and pray that nothing fucking happens from now till the first Tuesday in November. Because if a bomb goes off on a New York subway train or inside a storage container at some port or another, he’s going to have an awfully hard time explaining that away to all those folks who voted for Bush last time and would rather gauge their eyes out with spoons than do it again.  Just saying.

McCain Adviser: Another Attack on U.S. Would Be “Big Advantage” For McCain [Huffington Post]

WTF are you doing in Houston? Are you being punished? Oh, the humidity…
Sadly, a terrist attack probably would help McCain by bringing out the stupids who don’t want a Muslim in charge. Plus the “we need someone with military experience” idiots. You give Murricans, esp those who voted for Bush, too much credit.

Polls show McCain ahead of Obama on national security … by four points. I don’t doubt that a terrorist attack would help draw some voters back into the Republican fold, but it’s clearly not something anyone should wish for, let alone bank on. This is not the issue for McCain to win on — it’s not even in the top five.

i think it’s pretty much a catch-22 for the dems. if there isn’t a terrorist attack, it somehow proves that the republicans know what they’re doing and are keeping us safe. if there is an attack, then everyone will be afraid and the republicans will blame dems for not letting cheney personally waterboard the whole of islam, and bush will get another bump in the polls as the nation unites behind the stars and stripes (in particular the one pinned on mccain’s lapel).

How can any American still equate security with Republicans? Aside from the 3,000 Americans who died on September 11, you have the 4,100 killed in Iraq, 530 killed in Afghanistan, plus the 320,000 with brain injuries and the 300,000 suffering PTSD symptoms from our Middle Eastern empire building.

Let’s not forget the 1,800 who died from Katrina and the flooding of New Orleans.

Add in the estimated 22,000 American adults who died in 2006 due to the lack of medical care because they had no health insurance.

Add in the attempted sale of the port management of six major American seaports to Dubai.

Add in the oil-driven support of the repressive regimes in the Middle East that spawn and finance Muslim terrorism.

Add in the total loss of American goodwill around the world since September 11.

Add in the continuing saber rattling about a surprise nuclear attack against Iran.

Republicans and security … just like oil and water.

I have a feeling that things will start to boil over and get really ugly if there is another attack. Oil prices, economic woes, persistent failure at the federal level and the usual mix of ignorance and fear.

I have to agree with Greg. One of the big Repub things is that there hasn’t been another attack because they invaded an uninvolved country. Doesn’t look on them (two major terror attacks on their watch with PG promising more of the same stupid and arrogance that is the forte of the Bush Admin.)

Considering the anger towards Bush, I’m guessing they’d blame him and anyone associated with him. Could get ugly if you’re an eelight with Repub connections like Charlie Black who lobbied for scum of the earth dictators and the government of Iran. And that would be too fucking bad.

Jeebus, is it just me, or does it look like the McCain campaign is already in “we’ve run out of ammo, so we’re throwing the rocks around us” mode?

Has anyone seen our troll? I thought it was pretty cool we finally got our own freeper. Instead of, like, you know, Austrians. Who seem to be obsessed with pineapple for some reason. Our troll was pretty classy. He was scornful of our liberal ways. Well, your liberal ways. I hadn’t made any remarks on that particular thread because, frankly, I didn’t think it was in the best of taste. And I’m glad I didn’t because Roger Ramjet sure put liberals in their place. So he hasn’t been back? That’s strange because I thought he and I really ht it off. I mean I don’t think it’s my imagination but he was totally checking me out. See and what I really want to know is how much ram is in that jet. Or jet in that ram.

Oh yeah. McCain. Terrists. Wake me when it’s over.

BS- if you ever go to Dubai you’d know that their security is amazing. ( my dormitory was protected by police with AKs) and we should be afraid of their Intelligence agencies not vice versa.

McGeezer couldn’t hope for a snowball’s chance in hell if there was another terrorist attack - not after his Staffer was quoted as wishing for it.

We are definitely getting into the desperate, nostalgic fantasy area for the flailing republicans. Noone remembers, Bush was a complete failure with historically low approval numbers on 9-10-01. Then terrorists attacked, and he was God and Superman and Santa Clause rolled into one with an 80% approval rating. In the same vein, I hear William Kristol just recently said something to the effect of Bush is going to attack Iran if he thinks Obama is gonna win. Said it boldly, suggesting that it wouldn’t be a political thing, just sound policy, since Iran needs to be attacked, and Obama ain’t man enough to do it, he would have to do it before he leaves office, and hey, history would vindicate him.

Its not conspiracy theory anymore, it really isn’t, they are so completely fucking out of their minds in denial and desperation, they are forgetting that they have to hide their plans. Its in the open now, Iran will be attacked, terrists will attack the US, Bush will finally get Bin Laden, all in October, and they think people will thank them for this.

@promnight: I’m thinking the metaphor is more: “just the feet on the top of the gears of the chipper/shredder” right now. However, we’re one “mccain staffer asking GOP leadership if they think the election is effectively over” and one harsh snap from McCain(or one quasi-racist comment from McCain) away from “where did my knees go?” in the proverbial chipper/shredder.

@ManchuCandidate: I’m ready for the storming of 1600 Pennsylvania. Preferrably on July 14, too.

@WoodleyParker: Yeah, I have to agree, I thought when the news came out that Dubai wanted to buy our ports, “Finally, we’ll get some fucking security at them” since the last thing the sheiks want is anything cutting off the flow of oil to the US and Benjamins (or Euros) to the Middle East.
@promnight: Man, you say krazee yet utterly plausible shit like that and I want to know what the latest Ark contenders are in your (Democratic) Yacht Magazines.

Whoa, for a moment there we were talking like there will be an election if there’s another terrist attack. Silly rabbits. Cheney/Bush declare martial law, suspend elections, and start bombing whoever the hell they want.

Tin foil hat dept: My current reading on the history of the car bomb says that a series of explosions rocked Dublin just as the Irish parliament was considering anti-terror legislation in tha 70s. There is some conspiracy theory thought that the British Special Air Service and other mil-spook units running amok at the time, had something to do with it. BTW, our work with Pakistan . the Soviets in Afghanistan that created what is now called the terrorist training camp infrastructure was like car bomb university in the 80s according to Buda’s Wagon by Mike Davis.

Which mall?

@Dave H: You assume that repub voters ever look at numbers, and if they do, that they understand them. The Republican playbook does not include the phrase “Convince them of the logical reasons why we are right.” It’s all about bellyfeel and crimethink.

This election will go to McCain if they can convince the swing voters that a scary Muslim black rapist (just wait, it’s coming) who smokes and did cocaine and dealt drugs and worked with fucking scum of the earth inner city welfare queens is probably a bad choice for president. Did we mention he’s black!?

@promnight: You have to ask yourself, What are the consiglieri willing to let the capo do? We’re in the land of Kissinger telling the staff to keep Nixon away from The Button.
